Definition
The times are defined by the sun: Fajr before sunrise, Dhuhr after the sun passes its zenith, ʿAṣr in the afternoon, Maghrib after sunset and ʿIshāʾ at night. Because they depend on the sun, prayer times differ by location and date, and calculation methods differ slightly by region.
