Ḥadīth
حديثA transmitted report of the Prophet's ﷺ words, actions or silent approval.
Definition
A hadith consists of a chain of narrators (isnād) and the text itself (matn). Scholars grade each report by the reliability of its chain: ṣaḥīḥ (sound), ḥasan (good), ḍaʿīf (weak) and further categories. The grading is part of the report, which is why every narration on this site is shown together with its collection, number and grade.
