Ṣaḥīḥ

صحيح

A hadith grading meaning the report meets all conditions of soundness.

Definition

A ṣaḥīḥ hadith has an unbroken chain of upright, precise narrators, free of hidden defects and of contradiction with stronger reports. Ḥasan is one step below and still acceptable as evidence; ḍaʿīf reports are not used to establish rulings. Gradings are the work of specialists and are cited, not invented.
