English

Islam is built upon five: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, paying zakat, the pilgrimage, and fasting Ramadan.

Scholarly note

The four schools all build their books of worship on this order: purification and prayer, then zakat, then fasting, then hajj — the sequence found in Al-Hidaya, Mukhtasar Khalil, Minhaj al-Talibin and Al-Rawd al-Murbi'.
