Zakāt & charity
What is the difference between zakāt and ṣadaqa?
Answer
Zakāt is an obligatory, calculated duty with fixed rates and recipients; ṣadaqa is voluntary giving of any amount to anyone in need. The Prophet ﷺ counted even a kind word and a smile as ṣadaqa.
